Share Your Story at The Moth StorySLAM at Housing Works on Tuesday

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If your idea of a fun night is standing on stage while people judge you, then head to The Moth StorySLAM at Housing Works on Tuesday night. StorySLAM is like a poetry slam without all the verses, just plain old funny, tragic, ironic human stories.

Here’s how it works: Anyone who wants a shot at the mic enters their name in a hat.  Afterward, ten contestants are chosen one-by-one and given five minutes each to tell a full “beginning, middle, and end” story. The story should work with the theme of the evening – tomorrow night’s is “ancestors” – and the audience gets to sit back to enjoy, and judge of course.

Doors open at 7PM, but it’s suggested that you show up early to get your ticket ($8) and get a spot inside. And, if you’re feeling particularly charitable, The Moth is holding a MothSHOP Showcase tonight in which students from underserved neighborhoods get to share stories they crafted in the MothSHOP Community Education Program. The Showcase is also at Housing Works, and the suggested donation for the night is $5, with doors at 7PM and stories beginning at 7:30PM.

Tiara Francis - NY Know-it-all

Tiara was born in NYC, raised in NJ, and after studying Comp Lit at Columbia, vowed to never go back to the suburbs. While she has expensive taste, she also has shallow pockets and is always looking for a budget way to be a weekend warrior. Her hobbies include laughing way too loudly, putting hot sauce on/in everything - including margaritas - speaking French at inappropriate moments, and dancing like there’s no one else in da club.
