Broke-Ass Kitchen: Booze Edition

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Maybe I’m phoning this week’s recipe in because it’s the week before Christmas and I am already mentally sitting in my pajamas on my couch at home in Ohio watching syndicated Seinfeld with cookie crumbs all over my shirt. Or, as anyone who’s been to The Levee in Brooklyn can attest, I know that most times the simple things in life are also the most wonderful. Enter: The Beam Cream.

The Beam Cream is exactly what it sounds like (see picture in case you’re still confused). It’s a no-frills way to spread a little holiday cheer (or any kind of cheer, really.) Serve it up at your next gathering, or serve it to yourself when you just don’t feel like leaving your apartment. The Beam Cream won’t judge!

Broke-Ass Kitchen: The Beam Cream

Ingredients: Jim Beam, cream soda, 1/4 cup of brown sugar & 1 tsp cinnamon blended
Cost: Around $3 per drink
Time: 1 minute (!)
Soundtrack: Television’s Marquee Moon
The plan: Mix 1 teaspoon of cinnamon with 1/4 cup of brown sugar on a small plate. Coat the rims of a small cocktail glass then pour a shot of Beam and top with chilled cream soda. Ta-da! You’re almost drunk. (PS you can totally skip the rimmed glass part. Just a suggestion for classing it up.)

She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
