It’s Getting Hot. Go To Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden.

With the weather beginning to hit the early stages of “holy shit, it’s hot,” it’s about that time of year when love is in the air, flowers are starting to bloom and the beer gardens are opening their doors again. The beer garden: it’s the alcoholic’s best friend. There’s nothing like getting drunk under the sun.

A lot of places have a small garden or outside patio behind their establishment, which can get a little too crowded on busy days.  If you happen to be a little claustrophobic, like I am– or you just don’t want to be sandwiched by two sweaty, drunk guys– you might want to head to Astoria’s Bohemian Hall & Beer Garden.

Despite its vast layout in contrast to your average beer gardens, Bohemian Hall has a real homey atmosphere. There’s enough space to stretch your legs, a stage to watch performances and an open kitchen to order food. You have your smoking and non-smoking sections for you cigarette lovers, servers for you lazy drunks, and friendly people all around.

The wide variety of imported beers will please your adventurous drinker, otherwise, familiar favorites like Stella and Blue Moon are on tap for casual beer-drinkers. Pitchers go for $16. If you’re on a solo mission you can choose to sport a cool looking mug that will run you $6. It looks like it’s close to two pints, so you’re getting your money’s worth. Drinks in general are slightly above standard pricing, on the other hand, the food will terrorize your pockets. For example, a small serving of fries goes for $4, and these are pretty good fries, but not that good.

Even if the prices might have an ill effect on your wallet, I’d say that it’s a great atmosphere and well worth the visit. It’s perfect for large gatherings, especially if you need a place to go to at the last minute with no reservations. There aren’t any pretensions at the Bohemian Hall– just think of it as your local beer garden all grown up.

My father came, my mother saw...and I conquered. I encourage children to do drugs, I buy alcohol for teenagers, and I drink beer with the homeless. In my spare time, I attend art galleries for the FREE booze while rubbing elbows with modish elephants. I also hammer six-inch nails into small penises. Stuart knighted me as Broke-Ass King of New York. You've been warned.
