Mission Creek Festival's Awesome FREE Concert

It’s been 13 years since the the Mission Creek Music Festival first began, and this year they’ve decided to take their awesome rating up a notch and attain the highly salivated after rank of “Awesomer”.  That’s right, while the festival is raging throughout Oakland and San Francisco from July 10th-25th (fuck that’s a long time), the apex comes this Saturday, July 18th, when the festival throws it’s first large-scale  FREE outdoor concert.  Mission Creek (there actually used to be creek that ran through the Mission) is teaming up with SMiLE! and Kymberli’s Music Box for this and it’s taking place from 11:30am to 8pm at the Jerry Garcia Amphitheater in John McLaren Park.

The coolest part about this is that I’ve actually heard of some of these bands! I’ve totally been around people talking about bands like Persephone’s Bees, Bart Davenport and Birds and Batteries, plus I just read about The Rubies in Spin.  Also Monica the Intern keeps mentioning how hot the drummer from Leopold and His Fiction is.  I bet he’s dreamy.

According to the press release there’s even more stuff to look forward too like: DJs between acts, local indie vendors, designers, fashion, and a variety of food carts.  And it recommends bringing a sweater/jacket, a blanket to put your ass on, and some cash since there isn’t any ATMs.

Go to for all the details and the full line-up, because I’m getting tired of writing them.  Have fun at the show!

Broke-Ass Stuart - Editor In Cheap

I've been called "an Underground legend": SF Chronicle , "an SF cult hero": SF Bay Guardian, and "the chief of cheap": Time Out New York, but to those familiar with my work, I'm just "that douchebag who writes books about cheap stuff and drinks a lot".
