Joe's Coffee Shop – A Diamond In The Rough

Joe’s Coffee Shop is the kind of place that is a dream for a girl like me. When my wallet is welling up with tears instead of bills, the last place I want to go is some scuzzy donut shop where I feel like I’m the only thing that has been cleaned since 1974. Joe’s is a place to get a hangover curing, stick-to-your-ribs kind of breakfast that will give you more than enough bang for your buck. Eggs, Toast, Sausage, Bacon and Pancakes is what they know best. Its cramped and rundown, but clean and fantastic for what it is. The old asian ladies are the nicest ever and all the staff has a great temperment that makes you realize why they have been open for what seems like since the dawn of time. Your coffee cup is never empty, and they have the perfect kind of diner coffee that makes me wish I hadn’t given it up. Most plates of food are under $6, and will likely leave you waddling out the door or asking for a box for your leftovers. Lately, the place has been seen serving cops, hipsters, old men with newspapers and even businessmen out to an early breakfast, ties tucked in their shirts and all.
Though there aren’t many places in within stumbling distance from my house, Joe’s is definitely worth the trek for amazingly decent and cheap diner food. Give it a try!

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year, she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze, get at me.]

I LOVE this place. Cheap, fast and delicious! Cheaper than any of the other “greasy spoons” that are popular in this city. Gotta love the Outer Richmond!
