Divisadero Art Walk Thursday Night — Cheap Food, Booze and FREE Art!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

See artist Chris Mcnally, the creator of this illustration, Thursday night!

It’s that time again — no, not for the World Naked Bike Ride, you perv.  It’s the Divisadero Art Walk, and it’s happening Thursday night!  Starting at 6pm, a ton of businesses along Divis will open their doors for you to check out new art, really cheap drinks, and most importantly, the very cute waitress at Blue Jay Cafe (which, incidentally, will be offering $2 sangria and live music).  If I was a guy, the Divis Art Walk is where I’d take a date I wanted to impress with how unbearably hip and cultured I am.  Then I’d play it cool and be like, “Whoa, there’s $3 sangria here at Fly Bar?  Shoot, because I love buying wildly expensive drinks for girls I don’t even know if I like yet.”  Instead, this is where I’ll go to pick up said guys while said dates are in the bathroom.

Come hungry and be rewarded!  Start at The Little Chihuahua, devour some $3 tacos, and if that’s not enough, all the burgers at Acme Burgerhaus will be 1/2 off,  as will the sushi rolls at Tsunami Sushi Bar.  If you’re feeling particularly amorous, you can even get fancy with some $1 oysters at Bar Crudo.

There’s so much FREE art to see that it’s kind of overwhelming, but don’t let that stop you.  Check out The Perish Trust, where the shows are always amazing, and don’t miss Chris McNally at Mojo Bicycle Cafe, Ferris Plock at Noo Works Clothing & Design and live art at Bean Bag Cafe with Pete Doolittle and Spencer Gray.

After being all arty, you can pretend you don’t have to work on Friday morning and drink till your roommate dumps you in the back of a cab at Bar821, Madrone or The Page,  all of which will be offering killer specials.  This is also a perfect opportunity to check out Candybar, the self-proclaimed “dessert lounge.”  My friend lives around the corner from this place and insists he will never step foot inside.  Too frou-frou and dessert-y, he says.  Time to see what he values more:  his pride or $4 sparkling cocktails.  And let’s be honest here.  When does your pride ever win when cheap booze is involved?

Go here to see a comprehensive list of all the awesome stuff happening Thursday night on Divis!

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
