Magic Show and City Opera SF at 2010 Finale of Friday Nights at the de Young

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

'ILLUSION, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money."

If you’re like me, you have been to exactly zero editions of Friday Night at the de Young this year, despite the events being FREE and really cool.  And if, like me, you regret this fact, Friday is the last opportunity in 2010 to experience some low-key museum fun after a day of gut-busting thankfulness.

Featured in the last installment of Friday Nights at the de Young will be live orchestra music, performances of classic opera songs by sopranos from City Opera SF, a magic show (an “illusion show”!) by Paul Nathan and John Anaya that will apparently somehow incorporate a full band and impressionist images from the Orsay exhibit, and the usual awesome arts and crafts.

Pretty sure the FREE magic show is reason enough to venture out for this closing night, but right now some mellow orchestra music sounds amazing after what I’m sure will turn out to be a Thursday shitshow of listening to the raucous, deafening ramblings of drunk relatives.  Ahh, the holidays.

FREE Magic Show, opera and crafts at 2010 Finale of Friday Nights at the de Young Friday, November 26, 5pm – 8:45pm 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Dr. [Golden Gate Park] FREE

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
