Sunday Pizza Bowl: Presidio Bowling Center

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

There’s nothing like pounding Coors Lights, stuffing your face with greasy pepperoni pizza and belting out the lyrics to Paradise City while dancing like Axel Rose after getting your second strike in a row on a rainy Sunday afternoon. If you really want to end your weekend with a bang, gather up a group of friends and make a reservation for this exclusive Sunday special at the Presidio Bowling Center. For just $24 per person, you get three hours worth of bowling, shoe rentals and all-you-can-eat pizza. What more could one ask for?

Well, ok, the pizza does taste like cardboard covered in plastic cheese, but who cares about that when you are just using it to soak up the excess alcohol sloshing around in your stomach left over from last night? Add a few more beers to the mix, and you’ve never felt like a better bowler. The bar hosts more than 30 types of beer, all for $5 or less. But if you want to be really cheap, just pound a 40 oz. of Mickey’s in the parking lot before coming in, or fill a flask with Jack Daniels and hide it in your back pocket. Trust me, nobody is going to notice.

The clientele is as diverse as you can get. There were groups of young, screaming adults, a few families and I swear at one point I even saw Jesus from the Big Lebowski knockin’ down some pins. The jukebox was also jumping all over the place – from Brittney Spears to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Slayer to Dr. Dre… My favorite part of the night was watching people do their signature “dance” whenever they were satisfied with their bowling skills! The fact that I went with a whole bunch of international people from my work who had never been bowling before made it all the more entertaining.

In the 3 hours of unlimited bowling time (you can either go from 5-8 or from 8-11), we managed to bowl three games, eat at least four pieces of pizza (even though at one point we did contemplate ordering Domino’s to compensate this grossness of the bowling alley pizza) and drink a few beers as well. Anyways, I had so much fun, I even forgot my credit card in the bar! I was worried the damage would be out of this world, but was relieved to find out my total came to just $10 when I came to pick it up 3 days later. Hmmm…I wonder who bought me all those beers?
