Panning for Gold at KoKo's

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

koko-cocktails-black-gold

KoKo Cocktails is a gold mine of a bar: amazing happy hour specials, fresh-squeezed greyhounds, and old black-and-white movies projected against the wall. It deserves its own post (which it will get soon, I promise), but I need to tell you right now about Black Gold: It’s the cutest dance party party possibly ever. Also, it is FREE.

Hosted by Senator Soul, the event features DJs Alison, Melissa, and Johnny Landmine spinning tunes from the golden age of Motown. We’re talkin’ the smooth sounds of 1960s R&B and soul, perfect for getting your swerve on. Pop on your pinstriped suits and babydoll dresses, get your ass over to KoKo’s, and order a Motown Smash before it might have to close. If you’re hungry afterward, complete the retro night across the street at Mel’s.

Sarah M. Smart - Red-Light Special

Sarah M. Smart - Red-Light Special

Sarah M. Smart was summoned into being on a distant ice cream planet
through an unholy union of Two-Buck Chuck and unicorns. They sent her to Indianapolis and then the University of Missouri's School of Journalism
to spread peace and big hair. Perpetually in mourning for the comma, she
has worked for a variety of print media, including Indianapolis
Monthly
, Global Journalist, and Vox. Since moving
to San Francisco for the booming dumpster-diving scene, she has been an
online operative for such fine folks as Horoscope.com , Neo-Factory, and
Academy of Art University. After a day of cat-feeding, hat-making,
dog-walking, vegan baking, and daydreaming about marrying rich, all she
wants is a margarita as big as her face.
