Alamo Square: Cheap Western Addition Destination

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Alamo Square is probably best known for the Painted Ladies of Steiner Street and the always recognizable Full House introduction.  It has plenty more to offer, though.

Alamo Square truly is a killer place to hang out on the cheap.  The park has tons to offer including a playground for the little ones, tennis courts, and designated areas for dog enthusiasts to bring their dogs.  Let’s not forget the spacious grassy areas where, on a clear day, you have a great view of downtown and the Bay and Golden Gate bridges.  Tourists frequent the park as well, and for good reason.  This only makes Alamo Square that much better for people watching and people meeting, for that matter.

My personal favorite attraction would have to be the garden of various plants and flowers sprouting from old, worn out shoes.  It’s worth checking out.

Give it a look if you happen to be in the neighborhood.  If not, plan for a day trip.
