The Street Taco Is Not a Lost Art at Chile Jalapeno in Oakland

Yeah, I guess San Francisco has some decent Mexican food — but the Easy Bay has Chile Jalapeno Taqueria. Chile Jalapeno preserves the art form of creating the perfect street food, serving their famous street tacos for only a buck and a quarter each. In these shitty economic times (seriously, my debit card got declined at dinner last night!), good food for a good price isn’t something to be taken lightly. Any time you can get succulent carnitas or decadent chorizo for super cheap, it’s go time!

The inexpensive menu also offers traditional taqueria fare (chicken, pastor and steak), and buckets of beer for the alcoholically-inclined. With these things coupled with a big screen TV and intimate, comfortable seating, a good time is guaranteed.

But wait! Don’t leave without checking out the spacious back patio. If you’re lucky, a mariachi band will serenade you as you sip a delightful pina agua fresca. And that scenario, undoubtedly, is why Oakland can’t be all bad.

(Thanks to Evan & Toby, East Bay’s finest, for the tip)

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join eharmony.com and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
