After the Polls Close: Free Election Night 2011 Booze, Food and Parties

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Batten down the hatches, Election Day is upon on us and tonight promises to be a bender as only politicians and their entourages can slosh through. Most of these guys have been open since the wee hours already, so expect full on delirium if you drop in on one of the many Election Night parties that will be going off around town.

A lot of bars in town also tend to offer up incentives for good citizens, generally in the form of a drink being half off or free. The most famous and consistent of these would be the election night party organized by our friends at the League of Pissed-Off Voters down by El Rio way. Bring your stub, and you are entitled to your first quaff on the house. There’s also going to be free pizza, but you should probably get there before the polls close just to be on the safe side. The place is undoubtedly going to be a shit show, as that the John Avalos party will be two doors down at Roccapulco.

Other bars that usually have some sort of election special going on are places like Edinburgh Castle, Phone Booth, the Riptide and quite a few others. The Riptide will be having their usual happy hour prices in addition to giving away free beer-soaked hot dogs.

Another ground zero spot tends to be around 18th and Castro, and most of the bars on the street will have some sort of special going on with televised coverage.

Also going on will be the numerous campaign parties, all of which are free. Granted that might be all that is free at these events, but you never know. Especially if the evening seems to be going your candidates way. Below is a list of election night parties courtesy of SanFranciscoFYI. For sure stop by the mayhem that will be the party put on by the Avalos campaign!

And if there are any other Election night give aways, keep us informed here at Broke-Ass Election Central and we’ll send up a flare to let everyone know!

Stephen Torres - Threadbare-Fact Finder (Editor, San Francisco)

Stephen's early years were spent in a boxcar overlooking downtown Los Angeles. From there he moved around the state with his family before settling under the warm blanket of smog that covers suburban Southern California. Moving around led to his inability to stay in one place for very long, but San Francisco has been reeling him back in with its siren song since 1999.
By trade he pours booze, but likes to think he can write and does so occasionally for the SF Bay Guardian, Bold Italic and 7x7. He also likes to enjoy time spent in old eateries, bars and businesses that, by most standards, would have been condemned a long time ago.
