Outside Lands at the Main
Well this looks like all kinds of rad.
Outside Lands 2012 is history, but how much do you know about the history of Golden Gate Park, where it happened? For instance, did you know that the entire park used to be all sand dunes? Or that just over 100 years ago, Sutro Baths, that beautiful maze of concrete walls on the ocean near the Cliff House, was the world’s largest indoor swimming pool?
The San Francisco Public Library has a great event this Saturday to turn that hourglass over and let you swim in over a hundred years of San Francisco history. They call it “Outside Lands at the Main,” and it’s FREE.
12:00 – 1:30: Dig through Golden Gate Park and Sunset District history with “Stories in the Sand: San Francisco’s Sunset District, 1847–1964,” a book reading and visual extravaganza from Lorri Ungaretti, historian of the Sunset District. Event located in the Main Library building, Latino/Hispanic B room.
2:00 – 4:00: Take a dip in the history of Sutro Baths with Sutro: The Palace at Land’s End, a film from Tom Wyrsch. He looks at the story of the baths and the larger amusement park and museum complex at the edge of the city.
