CREATURES OF THE NIGHTLIFE FT. PEACHES CHRIST

The creatures come out at NightLife as the Academy partners with Bay Area Science Festival and Peaches Christ Productions to transform the museum into a spine-tingling, supernatural tribute to ’80s horror movies and creatures even stranger than life.

Inspired by their years catering parties, chefs Stuart Brioza and Nicole Krasinski use dim sum style carts to offer guests small but finely crafted dishes ranging from Potato Chips with Crème Fraiche and Cured Trout Roe, to Black Butter-Balsamic Figs with Wagon Wheel Cheese Fondue, to their famous savory pancakes and a menu of more substantial dishes such as their signature fried quail (our state bird) with stewed onions.

A SEA OF BUBBLES

A true one-of-a-kind SF icon, Bubbles was murdered in the Tenderloin in September.  He was a DJ, rebel, queerdo, performer and nightlife staple. And he was begrudgingly loved by all who appreciated the weird and wonderful of San Francisco. To honor him, friends are creating a “Sea of Bubbles” as a fundraiser. You have to come dressed as Bubbles – check out the photos, you’ll figure it out. And then they’ll take a weird and wonderful photo of all the Bubbles.

Sweethearts Janet and Brad stumble upon the flirtatious mad scientist, Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s, bizarre abode during his annual Transylvanian science convention. Audience participation is expected. Burlesque show included, plus prizes for best costumes.

TALES FROM THE HOOD

Tales from the Hood is a 1995 horror anthology film directed by Rusty Cundieff and executive-produced by Spike Lee. The film presents four short urban-themed horror stories centered on concepts such as police brutality, domestic abuse, racism and gang violence; all presented within a frame story of three drug dealers buying some “found” drugs from an eccentric and story-prone funeral director, played by Clarence Williams III.

Radio Ambulante, NPR’s only Spanish Language podcast, presents an evening of stories to benefit ongoing relief efforts in Puerto Rico. Radio Ambulante’s own Daniel Alarcón and Luis Trelles will be joined by producers More Perfect’s Julia Longoria, This American Life’s Stephanie Foo, Radiolab’s Molly Webster, and Latino USA’s Fernanda Echávarri. Come and support our friends in Puerto Rico by listening to some great radio. 100% proceeds will go to long-term relief for the victims of Hurricane María, via ConPRmetidos.
