I’d like to take a moment to apologize to all two of my devoted readers on this site '” I’ve just recently moved and, because of my dim-wit roommate, still do not have internet. I know you’ve missed my developing genius, and I’ve got something that I think you’ll really like geared up for this weekend.

If you know me, you know I love music. I love music so much that I’m willing to forgo a new dress, shoes or, hell, internet, to pay for a show. Even with this factor, I still find it hard to get obsessed with a band these days. I tend to listen to the same shit constantly, and I’m always finding great stuff. But somehow, its hard to tap that nerve in me that makes me go overboard. That is, with the exception of the Silversun Pickups.

I’ve been following this band for awhile, since they shot like a comet out of Silverlake in LA [AKA Hipsterville of the Americas]. Now, check it out, I’m not going to get on a fucking soap box and tell you that you should listen to this band, BUT LISTEN TO THIS BAND. Its loud, its a little too emotional, the lead singer sings like a girl, they have a really hot lady bassist…yadda yadda yadda.

So you probably aren’t looking to spend money on some intern’s band recommendation, but check it out  — you don’t have to! They will be making an appearance at Rasputin in Berkeley this weekend, where you can check them out in all their audacious loudness. Their new album, Swoon, came out on Tuesday and its epic. Its like the sound of the most beautiful girl you’ve ever dated crying. That didn’t even make sense. Just go to the fucking show. They will kill, I guarantee it. I’ll be the fat girl in the front dancing way too hard in the middle of the record store.

PS: They are confirmed for the summer festival circuit, so if you don’t want to cough up $200+ to go see them, now is the time!

Monica Miller - The Intern

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
