FREE:Bicycle Film Festival Kickoff Party !

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Bikers piss me off.  Not all bikers of course, but the smug, self-satisfied bikers that seem to take over the city streets, going against traffic when they feel like it, sneering at drivers and pedestrians alike and wearing their “One Less Car”  T-shirts with an air of pomposity usually reserved for  George Clooney’s acceptance speeches.  Once in Chicago I saw a swarm of Critical Mass bikers surround a taxi cab in an intersection and circle it repeatedly for 10 minutes, blocking traffic and jeering at the frightened driver and the annoyed passengers.

So yeah, I think certain members of the “bike culture” are jackasses.

BUT.

Most of them aren’t.  Don’t let a few bad apples spoil the bunch, and definitely don’t let it keep you from attending tonight’s party to celebrate the Bicycle Film Festival-a cinematic celebration of all things BIKE, taking place down at the South Street Seaport tonight at 6 oclock.

Along with booze and food will be John Spencer Blues Explosion (um…), and French band The Teenagers.  Chat with other bike-types about locks and chains and trails and shit, before heading over to the afterparty at Studio B.

Just don’t be a jerk about it.
