A Weekend of Humboldt Outdoor Adventure at a Broke-Ass Rate
A dude on a canopy tour. This could be you!
It’s funny how, when you look at the kids you grew up with, some of them have ended up exactly where you thought they would. If you told me 15 years ago that in 2009 my buddy Jon O’Connor would be leading outdoor adventures trips, I probably would’ve said, “Yeah, that sounds about right”. And he is. Remember last year when I asked to see who was interested in going to Nepal? This is the same cat. And this trip is a lot closer to home.
Jon and I were having a conversation recently and we hit on the fact that, because of the economy, people aren’t getting to take as many trips as they’d like. So we decided to put something together that isn’t too far from the Bay and is mad affordable. So I am now presenting the 2009 Broke-Ass Humboldt Trip. This is your chance to explore the outdoor beauty of Humboldt County on a Broke-Ass budget.
The trip is from August 21st-23rd and includes:
- A Canopy Tour in Redwood Park
- A Segway Tour around historic Arcada
- Sea Kayaking on a guided tour of Humboldt Bay, Woodley Island, and Eureka
- Mountain Biking the Arcata Community Forest
- Saturday Morning Yoga
- Rock Climbing
- Meals and Drinks

Sounds like a lot of awesomeness doesn’t it? And the best part is, you get ALL of this for only $291! I don’t even know how much this would cost if it were all done separately, but it would be a shit ton more expensive. The only things not included in this package are transportation to/from Humboldt and lodging. And in terms of that I bet we can we can figure out ride shares from the Bay and maybe you folks can split a room. Plus there’s always Couchsurfing.org.
Sound like something you’re interested in? Then holler at me so I can fill you in on the exact itinerary and we can work out the details. Make sure to check out North Coast Adventure Center (Jon’s company), if you wanna get a better idea of what all these activities are like.

Stuart, get a clue. It’s Arcata and anyone who has lived there would be horrified at your egregious misspelling in “Arcada”. And if you think it’s Arcada or, worse yet, Arcadia, we don’t want you to visit.
@Carly-
Thanks for your warm welcome! While I do apologize for my spelling error (I thought for sure the city was filled with Arcades), I have a feeling that the small and independent businesses that would be patronized by our group wouldn’t give a shit if we spelled Arcata with three “d’s”.
Stuart would someone fill me in on the exact itinerary and the details regarding the Humboldt Outdoor Adventure trip?
Thanks much!
A
That is where you are wrong my friend. I may be an ex-Arcata resident, but I think it is safe to say that they would turn your money down on the Plaza if you thought you were in Arcadia. Arcata prefers transients waiting for Reggae to start over Bay Area folks with jobs.
Local economy be damned!!! Maintaining the Humboldt Bubble is much more important.
Seascape restaurant up in Trinidad is worth a visit, one of my favorites. If you need to eat after 9 pm, Don’s Doughnuts FTW. Don’t believe the hype, APD is over-rated.
Have fun!
wow. It’s just a typo. Get over it. He’s reppin’ Humboldt and trying to get folks to come and explore that beautiful place.
