Broke-Ass of the Week

Broke-Ass of The Week – Lacroix of Lavande Garde

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Every week we feature a different person from the community shedding a little light on their life of brokeitude.  Who knows, maybe you’ll learn something about the human spirit'probably not.

Wanna be a Broke-Ass of the Week?  Holler at us here and we’ll send you the questionnaire.

Lacroix is is the Founder and Proprietor of Lavande-Garde, a fashion/beauty blog entirely dedicated to Grimace, of McDonald’s fame.  Just kidding.  In her own words, “Lavande-Garde is a melange of beauty, fashion and creative culture encompassed under the ‘V’ spectrum of ‘ROYGBIV’.  An expression of vibrant and subdued hues from Berry to Lavender, Mauve to Violet.”  She was kind enough to let me guestblog once, an opportunity which I seized with relish, writing a piece that was supposed to be about lipstick, but quickly de-volved into a poor analogy about Temple of The Dog.

But for reals, Lacroix does ALL of the webdesign and content for Lavande-Garde, plus has a dayjob, and is doing about 30,000 other sideprojects.   If this girl isn’t living proof that a good work ethic and being smart about style without plunging yourself into debt is, in fact, desireable and attainable, then you, sir or madam, need more help than the Hamburglar at a BBQ.

Name: Lacroix

Age: A lady never tells..

Occupation: Blogger and workaholic

What neighborhood do you live in?: Prospect- Lefferts Garden Brooklyn, New York!

Best money saving tip: Enjoying Leftovers and weekly prepared meals, truly it has saved me some nice change!

What do you refuse to spend money on?: Condiments- they are always free somewhere. Though I don’t go around with ketchup in my pocket- though there is some in my desk. My little brother is currently working on a watch that dispenses hot sauce a la Undercover Brother but.. off with that tangent.

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: A car

How’d that feel?: Great, when it was paid for in 3 1/2 years, then I sold it when I moved out East.

Favorite cheap eat: L&L Hawaiian BBQ- Chicken Musubi’s! A little taste of home (San Diego)  in NYC.

Favorite dive bar: Legion in the ‘burg

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: A YSL Blazer from the 80’s on Ebay for $30, when taken to the tailor- I was told that its value was in the hundreds.

Favorite free thing to do: Strolling Prospect Park, walking the Brooklyn Bridge- Movement is always free- its when you stop at places- it usually means you are spending money, unless you are at the Port-o-potty.

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: I would pay off my credit cards and put myself on a budget to make sure that money lasts me until my AARP years.

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: absolutely, I have no complaints thus far. Money doesn’t buy happiness. I don’t have a tv, a car, a bike- its just me, my feet and my metrocard. I feel a bit more social because of this, going out meeting people, going to flea markets or hosting cooking competitions in my apartment. Simple and cheap.

Do you own my book?: I think so…which one?

Best hangover cure: Aleve, Pandesal, and Cranberry Juice.

Are you a hipster?: That’s a negative, my dear
