SF Green Festival and Green Week
Alright. I’m about to get super green on you, so if you hate trees and recycling and wildlife and the planet then don’t bother reading on. But also if you really hate all those things do me a solid and try not to procreate. This weekend is the annual San Francisco Green Festival. Speakers range from John Robbins to Dead Prez. There is too much stuff going on to list here, but check out the jam-packed schedule. There are a bunch of ticket options, some as cheap as $10 for all three days, bike valets, rideshares, etc.
Green Festival
When: November 13th, 14th, and 15th (Fri: 12'“7pm'¨Sat: 10am'“7pm,'¨Sun: 11am'“6pm)
Where: San Francisco Concourse Exhibition Center: 635 8th St. @ Brannan St. [SOMA-ish]
It is also Green Week. Here’s the spiel: 'œGain green skills (for FREE!), roll up your sleeves, green your block, celebrate sustainability, collaborate with amazing people of all ages, make a difference in your community, restore watersheds, plant school gardens, install solar energy, build bamboo bikes (!!!) and learn soil bio-remediation.' Urban Tree Planting
When: Wednesday, November 11th and Saturday, November 14th, 9am-2pm
Where: Meet at 9am at 835 57th, Oakland, Ca 94608
Location: International Boulevard in East Oakland.
Info: Urban Releaf, an urban forestry organization partners with the Keep Oakland Beautiful Board, a volunteer agency that does beautification projects around the city for a day of urban tree planting.
Urban Farming Service Day
When: Wednesday, November 11th, 2009, 2-5pm
Where: Growing Youth Project Farm, 2500 Barbers Point Road, Alameda

Info: Hosted by Alameda Point Collaborative, join the Growing Youth Project on an amazing urban farm in Alameda that provides formerly homeless residents with fruits, vegetables, eggs and honey. Activities around harvesting for produce delivery, planting native species, and possible onsite building project.

Sustainability & Eco-Arts Education Day

Info: Hosted by Esperanza Sustainability Center & CommuniTree, a lively community day in an outdoor sustainability and urban gardening site in the Mission District, S.F. Learn about urban garden planting, natural building and other sustainability education projects. There will be eco-arts performances throughout the day.
FYI, throughout the weekend there are a bunch of nighttime activities/parties/Dead Prez shows but those are not FREE, but if you have some extra cash you can find out about them in on the Green Festival After Dark page.
