Peephole – FREE Music, Live Show!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Now, I have a story to tell you.  It starts out sad, but the ending is happy, so I’d recommend that you read it until the end.  Is it true?  You’ll have to figure that one out for yourself.  Here we go.

Once upon a time a boy by the name of Odessa was born in the sparkly suburbs of Detroit.  He lost his parents at a young age and spent his tumultuous teenage years working a creative variety of part-time jobs – such as being a bellhop for a gaudy hotel and a lifeguard at the local YWCA.  He liked to putter around in the kitchen improvising Martha Stewart recipes he found online.  He also learned to play bass and guitar in what he would call 'œpost-punk and psych-rock bands.'

Then one day, a break in the form of a job composing music for gay adult films took him to New York City.  While recording some Pharrell-esque vocals for an underground hip-hop artist, Odessa realized that he had pipes of gold.  His calling was revealed!  He rushed through the grimy 2007 summer heat to his makeshift bedroom/studio and recorded a song that launched the birth of the band called Peephole.  The world rejoiced!  Throngs of scantily clad ladies and bearded men started following Odessa wherever he went, from the darkest recesses of Brooklyn music halls to the fluorescent lights of Midtown office parties.  The world was indelibly changed – for the better.

Hipsters, classic-rock dads, R&B junkies, even you Jersey Shore crowds, you all will find something to love in Peephole.  Sounding kind of like a Richard Simmons workout video, but with more synths and reverb, Peephole will delight and thrill you!  My favorite song is 'œRita Done Me Wrong,' but Odessa himself ranks 'œHalf a Soul' right up there with it.  (Just in case you were wondering, Odessa’s favorite non-Peephole song is a tie between “Heroes” by David Bowie and “The Beautiful Ones” by Prince.)

Here’s the broke-ass part.  All Peephole’s music is FREE to download on their website '“ PeepholeMusic.com.  Or check em out on MySpace.

Odessa, along with live Peephole band members Michael Pontiac, David Rozner, and Jason Paul, will be playing at their Release Party of the 'œCrime Drama EP' this Friday night at Cameo Gallery.  Put on your dancing shoes, grab a buddy or two, and party like it’s the middle of summer again!

Danielle Levanas - Bargain Soul Huntress

Danielle was raised by a pack of coyotes in the Los Angeles hills. Since arriving in NY in 2001, she has had any number of strange jobs, including back-up singing for JELVIS (the Jewish Elvis), starting the non-profit LYDIA, and writing political cabarets. A huge advocate for travel as a way of life, you can find her at the Brooklyn Public Library when her bank account is empty, fantasizing about where to head off to next.
