Check out King Tut for FREE at the de Young This Weekend

The Cadillac of Coffins

We’ve mentioned a lot of ways you can get FREE museum admission on this site, but that’s because a) learning is great and b) unlike your favorite falafel place, they’re always changing what they have to offer. (It’s OK about the falafel though, don’t go changin’!) So if you’ve taken our advice anytime in the past couple months, maybe you took advantage of one of the free museum days to go check out the exhibits at the de Young. And maybe you were really excited because you’ve been seeing those signs around town that say King Tut has taken up residence in Golden Gate park, because who doesn’t want to see a dried up old Pharaoh?

But if that’s the case, you were probably really disappointed to find out that viewing the old guy isn’t included in your free admission. Bummer! This Saturday and Sunday though, thanks to some corporate sponsorship from Target, the de Young will be handing out free tickets to the Tut exhibit on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 8:30am. They expect tickets to go fast, but they’re good for the whole museum all weekend in case you haven’t seen their latest offerings or want to head up to the tower to take advantage of the recent clear weather.

And if you don’t get a ticket they will still be hosting a FREE Mummy Film Festival as well as Fortune Tellers, Tarot Card Readers, and DJs spinning contemporary Egyptian music while sword dancers and belly dancers wander around the main floor.

Andrew Dalton - Aggressive Panhandler

Andrew is an East Coast transplant from Virginia hamming it up in San Francisco without any intention of leaving. Having worked every typical job from Bike Shop Employee to Bartender to Ad Agency Hotshot, to Dotcom Layoff he now busts his ass covering the "weird things to do" beat for gracious local audiences at SFAppeal.com and rallies the Western Addy/Lower Haight/Panhandle neighborhoods into action at AggressivePanhandler.com. His work was published in a real, paper magazine one time. One day he might even figure out how to make money from it.
