Hangin' Tough

Alisha is a busy girl.  She reps indie bands, does consulting for publicity and events and is responsible for a lot of the momentum of So Sauce.  But as we all know, being busy doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not a broke-ass.  Read below to see how she navigates through brokeitude.

Name: Alisha Miranda aka Lish

Age: 24 in February!

Occupation: Super Awesome Biz Woman ' also: Publicity & Events Consultant, Indie Band Rep

What neighborhood do you live in?: Upstate, New York in a corner room of my parents house

What are you listening to these days?: Good Old War is really quite lovely this season

Best money saving tip: Working with so many different companies at once I get to go to lots of 'œmeetings' and 'œhappy hours' which usually means free food and free drinks. Can’t beat those perks sometimes

What do you refuse to spend money on?: Train station parking! Metro-North commuters are charged nearly $400 a month for train and subway passes, so I beat the system by never paying for a parking spot at the train station. I’ve been scoring free parking for over a year now

Most expensive thing you’ve ever bought: My beautiful white Macbook. She is precious and lets me get my biz done just the way I want.

How’d that feel?: It hurt at the moment paying so much for something on my own, but in the end making the change from PC to Mac was well worth it!

Favorite cheap eat: Feed me burgers and I’m the happiest girl in the world

Favorite dive bar: Not sure if it’s a dive bar, but Slane in the West Village is the freaking best! I go as often as possible since I know the owner, and there’s always a good time to be had

Best deal you’ve ever gotten: How’s staying rent-free in my parents house at 24 years old?

Favorite free thing to do: Walking in NYC is underrated. Seriously this city is full of beauty and culture that is available at no cost. Late night walking through New York, taking photos, and people watching is one of my favorite past times

If you woke up a millionaire, what’s the first thing you’d buy?: An apartment in NYC just like Adam Sandlers’ in 'œBig Daddy' '“ that’s my type of place.

Despite not having money, do you still love your life?: Surprisingly, yes. It’s reassuring to know I’m not the only broke-ass dealing with an incredible debt of student loans. Plus I have some sweet jobs, and even better people to surround myself with

Do you own my book?: YES! I bought it at the non broke-ass store, Urban Outfitters. It’s been one of my favorite NYC guides ever since!

Best hangover cure: When I find one, I’ll let you know.

Are you a hipster?: If that is a thinly veiled criticism of me, I won’t hear it and I won’t respond to it.

Broke-Ass Stuart - Editor In Cheap

I've been called "an Underground legend": SF Chronicle , "an SF cult hero": SF Bay Guardian, and "the chief of cheap": Time Out New York, but to those familiar with my work, I'm just "that douchebag who writes books about cheap stuff and drinks a lot".
