FREE Appetizers and Runway Show at Loft 1513 Tonight

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Everyone looks better in black and white.

The catch-22 of living in San Francisco is that there are these amazing local artists and designers around the city, but because they are also real people who are trying to pay rent on time AND have enough money left over to eat something other than Chex Mix for dinner, their goods are usually way out of the price range of a young broke-ass.  But you know what really helps ease the pain of knowing you may never be able to afford a beautiful hand-stitched bustier unless it somehow ends up at Out of the Closet in five years?  FREE appetizers.

Good thing that’s what local clothing designer Invisible Hero is offering tonight at Loft 1513, in addition to a FREE runway show (meaning some of the guests will be models, who don’t eat, so more appetizers for you!), the unveiling of a new shoe line called “Gilded Youth,” a champagne bar, DJ sets, dancing, an outdoor garden and the really cool Doug Birnbaum’s Traveling Photobooth.

Even if, like me, you can’t afford any of the clothes or shoes you see tonight, I like to think about it this way:  if tomorrow I meet an extremely wealthy rhino who, because he’s old, tired and loaded, wants nothing more out of life than to sit and stare at my young, intent face while I watch reality television, take me to the water park at Atlantis, and buy me fancy clothes for the sheer pleasure it gives him to see me weep in gratitude, I’ll know what to tell him I want.  Yeah, I think about this a lot more than I should.

FREE Appetizers and Runway show at Loft 1513 Friday, March 26th, 7pm 1513 Church St. @ 27th St. [Noe Valley]

Christy Jovanelly - Cheapskate Commentator

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
