Yar Matey – A McSweeney’s Night of Magic and Treasures

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

If you fancy yourself a pirate, a bibliophile, a treasure hunter or all of the above, then I know what you’re doing this Saturday night! McSweeney’s is celebrating it’s newest book release, The Clock Without a Face, with a FREE party and nationwide treasure hunt. How awesomazing is that!? Twelve jewels have been buried all over the country and to honor the kick-off there will be emerald-themed refreshments (read: jello shots) and exclusive clues about the whereabouts of said jewels.

The event will be held at the oh-so-cool Secret Alley in the Mission, and is sure to be a surreptitious bundle of fun! Also, I can’t emphasize enough the coolness of the treasure hunt. One time I tried to organize a scavenger hunt and it just ended with my little brother crying. Family reunions are the worst.

Anyway, there will be music by Hod Hulphers, Chris Klippel, a screening of a short film about the book and some illusory entertainment from renowned MAGICIAN Christian Cagigal. Authors Eli Horowitz and Mac Barnett will hanging out as well. My head just exploded from excitement!

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
