Well, I could talk about Fleet week, the week when New York honors the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, hosting extensive military demonstrations, as well as a providing an opportunity for visitors to go aboard ships. I could also talk about the importance of Memorial Day beyond simply the day off aspect. But then it would be difficult – from a literary perspective – for me to work in the FREE manicure offer at Ace Hotel on Saturday (according to Metromix), so I’ll just skip straight to it.

Now since it’s at Ace Hotel, you can bet that the manicure is a bit different and way fancier then the usual two-coat polish. In fact, the treatment normally costs $55. And even has a snazzy name: Minx manicure. From what I am reading, Minx manicures involve application of a several millimeters of film'”with a heat-activated adhesive'”specifically measured to fit each nail. Color and print options vary from metallics, to plaids, to animal prints, to tie-dyes. Maybe in honor of Memorial Day, you could ask for some red, white, and blue, combo. Oh yeah baby, I am so good at tying things up!

Rebecca E. - The Centimentalist

Rebecca E. - The Centimentalist

What does Rebecca bring to the table? Fanciful eye twinkles and a plastic tablecloth, that's what. Her parents are Russian, but she was born in Massachusetts and thus maintains her innocence, though she admittedly prefers blintzes and beet salad to hamburgers. When she spent a year in Japan as a kid she experienced the first of many dips on her normalcy development chart. She came back to the States like the little wheelbarrow on the NYC Edition of Monopoly. Next, she moved to Atlanta where she hung with Jermaine Dupree in elevators. She got a B.A. outside Chicago, and after a two-year stint as a consultant, warmed up in Miami, picking up a water-resistant J.D. Now she is back in Manhattan, trying to collect evidence and moneybags all over the board, henceforth as the cannon piece.
