Tenth Time’s the Charm: Siren Music Festival Hits Coney Island

Look, I’m not a selfish person. I don’t ask for much, I pay my taxes, I give the occasional financial pledge to the destitute and homeless, I hold doors open for strangers. I do good things.

So grant me your understanding and spare me your judgment when I tell you that I really don’t want the Siren Music Festival to happen this weekend. My schedule just won’t have it.

From 12 PM to 9 PM on Saturday July 17th, The Village Voice will be bestowing upon New York the tenth annual iteration of its beloved (and FREE) Siren Music Festival. And the lineup could hardly be more spectacular.  Harlem, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Surfer Blood, PonyTail, Screaming Females and Matt & Kim are all scheduled to spill their aural ambrosia. And that’s exactly half of the total number of acts. 14 acts on two stages means that many music fans, including quite possibly you, are more than likely going to die from the rapture of musical satisfaction. It may actually be too much for the body to handle.

But I won’t be there. So while you jig and jive and positively quiver with joy at the sounds of well-played guitars and drums and the dulcet yelps of Ponytail front-woman Molly Siegel, remember me. It would mean a ton.
