Kindness Kitchen: Best Free Indian Food Ever!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I had heard a lot about Kindness Kitchen '” Stu blogged about it, NBC 7 did a piece on it, even our journalism department at SF State did a multimedia piece on it. Naturally, I was curious. In no way, shape or form am I considered poor, but I am definitely on a budget since I’m unemployed and living off loans.  Also, considering I don’t get paid for the dumb shit I constantly do for Stu and how the cheap ass motherfucker doesn’t even pay me, I need all the love I can get (Just fucking with you Stu).  So this past Sunday, I headed to Marahani to  check this place out. I came to the conclusion that…

IT IS AMAZING.

I am probably going to be there every Sunday, even after I move. We were greeted warmly by a gentleman, who I assumed was the one running the charity operation. I realized at this point that I had forgotten my camera, which was an epic fail. Regardless, we were served a three course meal for FREE. REALLY. FREE. And as much as I thought it would lack in quality, I was wrong '” it was probably some of the best indian food I’ve ever had. They gave us a lentil soup, a choice of drinks [I had chai and my best friend had the pomegranate lemonade, which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND], basmati rice, naan, veggie curry, potato and eggplant curry, chickpeas and spinach and tofu. THEN the guy comes out with two different desserts, both of which i did not get the names of.  Regardless, it was an amazing spread:

I know most of you probably work on the weekend, considering the fact that your job is your biggest asset at the moment. But if you’re ever free, this is an amazing thing to do go on a Sunday. The vibe was elegant, the service was wonderful and people were ridiculously nice.  The most puzzling thing to me? There were only three other parties besides us in the restaurant. How is that possible? Head there before the word really gets out!

Monica Miller - The Intern

Ms. Miller was born in San Diego, CA to one lesbian mother and one
righteous, cheap father. Currently, she is enrolled at San Francisco
State University for a B.A. in Journalism and the approximate
completion date is around 2015. She has worked for many papers in the
Bay Area, including the Oakland Tribune and the San Mateo Country
Times and is currently the city editor at one of the most
underappreciated publications in SF, the Golden Gate [X]press. Though
she may find bargains aplenty, it only stems from the necessity of
never landing an actual job and working for hacks [like Stuart.] With
intelligence, style, poise, bite, and honesty, she will rip your heart
out; but not before writing some awesome, poignant shit. This year,
she is looking forward to bigger and better things such as: trying to
get paid for a gig, actually finding a date that isn't a loser or
fucking crazy, not calling her parents when hungover and bringing you
the best of the 7x7 everyday of the week. [By the way, I wasn't
kidding about the date thing; if you love food, booze and shoegaze,
get at me.]
