Hot Dogs – Meet The Breeds This Weekend

Sign up for the best newsletter EVER!

Besides the obvious things like their generally affable nature and their proclivity sniff at your crotch, there are lots of reasons to like dogs. For one, they can essentially smell cancer, which is a major plus if you are into that sort of stuff. Also, they have a flicker fusion rate that falls above the threshold where televised motion can be detected. Meaning this: Dogs could care less about House.

But what’s better than the aforementioned is just how many breeds of dogs are barking and sniffing in the world. For this year’s Meet the Breeds, The American Kennel Club (and the Cat Fanciers’ Association, who do cats) are bringing 160 breeds of dog (and 41 breeds of cat) to the Jacob Javits Center this weekend for a fur-filled orgy of ogling and petting. An array of experts will be present at the event, answering questions and directing you to the armies of vendors aiming to strip you of your pesos.

Tickets are twelve dollars up to the end of Friday, and fifteen bucks at the door. That’s nine cents a dog, but I ask you this: Can you really put a price on that much canine beauty?
