d.b.a. opens in Williamsburg, becomes less annoying

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Some people love being in a huge crowd, using their best cheerleader voices while surrounded by a sea of different people and their corresponding drink-spilling elbows. I am close to the exact opposite of this kind of person. d.b.a. on 1st Avenue was one of the few overcrowded bars I didn’t mind a jab in the ribs for because of their overwhelming beer selection, outdoor seating area, free lox and bagels starting at 1PM on Sundays, and free cheese plates and half-priced wine at the bar on Monday nights.

But then they went and took the things I did like about the bar, got rid of the things I didn’t like about the bar, and moved it 10 minutes away from my house to Williamsburg. Rib jabs, be gone!

At least for now, d.b.a. Brooklyn is the calmer, more manageable sister to the Manhattan bar. 16 drafts, an impressive list of spirits and wines, and 3 cask-conditioned ales make it an easy favorite for almost anyone. The outdoor patio is there, too, as is a daily happy hour that knocks $1 off drafts from 1-7:30PM. On Sundays, Tchoup Shop offers up some heat via Cajun eats to go along with your suds, and usually a live band plays ramshackle New Orleans-inspired tunes, too. I suggest you dance while you still have space to.
