OH, HI MARK! ‘The Room’ Screening Tonight at Big Umbrella Studios

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

HOLY SHIT it’s amazing out today!  It’s hot enough for my window to be open for once and the people next door have already commenced a rooftop drinkfest.  NO, this is not an April Fool’s Day joke!  SUN IN SAN FRANCISCO!

Okay, I’m done.  I just had to talk about the warm weather, one of my very favorite things in the world as a prodigal daughter of the OC, before I talk about my other very favorite thing — THE ROOM.  If you know me, you’ve heard about this movie.  If you don’t know me, the criteria by which I will judge you is 1. Do you like to eat copious amounts of Mexican food? and 2. Have you seen The Room?  If you haven’t, you’re not automatically out.  You just have to come to a screening with me, like tonight’s at Big Umbrella Studios on Divis, and laugh like a deranged person.

To celebrate April Fool’s Day, the art gallery is hosting “This Is No Joke: These Films Were Really Made” Movie Night.  They’ll be showing both The Room AND Troll 2 (which I have never seen but WOW does it look amazingly bad), and admission is only $1.  The popcorn maker’s revving up as we speak and there will be some drinks available, but it’s also totally BYOB.  So get your sunburned ass a bottle of refreshing Crane Lake Sauvignon Blanc and plastic spoons, head over to Big Umbrella and finish this day off right.

When Christy announced she was leaving her family's Southern California home and moving to San Francisco, her mom said, "Have fun in that den of sin." This is the only (however sarcastic) advice Christy has ever taken from her mom, who also told her to join and cover her eyes during sex scenes in movies. Christy puts her creative writing degree to good use by locating the typos on Chinese food menus and spends most of her time challenging friends to all-you-can-eat contests and trying to get that one bartender at Zeitgeist to smile.
