Calling All Carnivores! Cheap Meat in the Lower Haight!

Honestly, I’m not a huge meat fan, but I found out about a place the other day that will hook you up in the meat department! I was hanging out in Lower Haight, celebrating a friend’s birthday last week, when I met this bad-ass butcher who worked at a meat market across the street. My friend and I were trying to plan a menu for our Ghetto Fab BBQ we threw last Sunday, and this guy had all the answers. His name is Pierre and he works at Lo-Cost Meat Market on the corner of Fillmore. Pierre was not only full of recipe and cooking tips, he was 100 percent hilarious.

The name of the shop says it all. The prices were so low, they almost make you want to limbo! As long as you can get past the overwhelming meat smell, you’re in. The interior (basically white walls and fluorescent lighting) is nothing to write home about, but there are plenty of interesting cuts of meat to choose from. They also sell some seafood, including fresh oysters and mussels, which cost way less than they do at any major supermarket. Chicken wings and thighs are about $2.50 a pound, Rib-eye steaks are only $5.49 a pound and you can mix and match a variety of three fat sausages for just $3!

Take Yelper Jai D.’s advice, ” I highly recommend Lo-Cost Meat Market…Get to know more about seasoning, local meat, cooking and many other skills that not only make you a better cook, but makes you a better carnivore.”
