Tonight! See The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for FREE!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I’m really glad I saw this because I didn’t realize The Pains of Being Pure at Heart had a new album out! The band is playing a sold-out show at Great American Music Hall tonight for $17, so if you were too cheap and/or lazy to buy tickets, you can still catch a sneak peek for FREE  at Amoeba before the show. Bonus: Since it’s before the band’s main show, you’ll see and hear the members at the freshest they’re going to be all night.

A noisy pop five-piece with shoegaze sensibilities, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart has been rising steadily since its critically acclaimed self-titled debut came out in 2009. The band released its latest, Belong, at the end of last month. It’s evident Pains is going places: Belong is even more confident, more powerful, and more radiant than the band’s first effort. Amoeba Records has a longstanding tradition of hosting up-and-comers as part of its Live In-Stores show series. Check them out tonight, and groove to MY favorite song, “Young Adult Friction,” for a FREE glimpse into the future of pop.

Sarah M. Smart - Red-Light Special

Sarah M. Smart was summoned into being on a distant ice cream planet
through an unholy union of Two-Buck Chuck and unicorns. They sent her to Indianapolis and then the University of Missouri's School of Journalism
to spread peace and big hair. Perpetually in mourning for the comma, she
has worked for a variety of print media, including Indianapolis
, Global Journalist, and Vox. Since moving
to San Francisco for the booming dumpster-diving scene, she has been an
online operative for such fine folks as , Neo-Factory, and
Academy of Art University. After a day of cat-feeding, hat-making,
dog-walking, vegan baking, and daydreaming about marrying rich, all she
wants is a margarita as big as her face.
