Much Ado About Lebowski

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Everybody loves The Dude. But what about a Shakespearian version of The Dude?

This weekend marks your last chance to see The Dude as The Knave in the the amazing spectacle of a performance  Much Ado About Lebowski at CellSpace. Back by popular demand from it’s opening last year, the show is back in San Francisco for the month of June only.

This twisted take on the Coen brothers film, The Big Lebowski, reinvents the film as a play written by William Shakespeare. The play, produced by SF IndieFest and The Primitive Screwheads, incorporates a Renaissance-inspired-soundtrack, glitter and a whole bunch of other quirky props to keep the audience rolling in laughter. Some members of the audience even opt to wear all white, in hopes of getting splattered in fake blood!

To call it a “spectacle” may even be a bit mundane. The script is right-on and the characters are out of this world. If you are a fan of the film, you’ll be an even bigger fan of Much Ado About Lebowski. Don’t worry, The Knave still abides  – but in a way Jeff Bridges could never pull off. The show starts at 8 pm, but be sure to get there early to throw back a few White Russians…
