FREE Word for Word Series at Bryant Park

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Although it’s been around for a few years, I only got hip to Bryant Park’s free “Word for Word” series a few days ago. I also only found out a few days ago that you can expand the view finder on the Hipstamatic camera app, making it 1000x easier to use and a lot clearer why everyone has been taking better pictures than me, so judge as you wish.

This annual summer reading series features readings and discussions from some of the literary world’s most prestigious–or in the case of today’s Michael Showalter/Jenny Slate reading, hysterical–authors and critics. All events are free on a first-come, first-served basis and take place a couple times each week in the early evening or at lunchtime, in case you get one of those.

Upcoming events include and a discussion of Jane Eyre led by Jennifer Gilmore and a Civil War lecture with James McPherson. Check out the full listing HERE, as well as all the other awesome free things Bryant Park is putting on this summer (hint: accordions aren’t just for obnoxious subway performers anymore!).

Jill is an Ohio native and Boston University graduate who refuses to stop saying "pop" and wearing her Red Sox gear despite being heckled for doing so since moving to Brooklyn. She's been honing her thrifty ways since doing that silly thing people talk about when they ignore reason to follow their hearts and chose a career in the fulfilling but faltering music industry. She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
