FREE Mermaids of New York Screening and Fundraiser Tonight

Updated: Aug 06, 2011 10:47
The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Remember when you were little and you used to cross your legs while swimming and pretend you were a mermaid? And it even looked like you had a tail in your shadow, and that was the coolest? And you’d do it for like, hours? Remember? Well even if you don’t, it was, and there are a group of sirens who keep the magical mermaid tales (tails?! har har!) alive called the Mermaids of New York.

Proving that the Mermaid Day Parade ain’t their only time to shine, there is an upcoming documentary about the women who glide the Manhattan streets year-round as the fabled forms. You can check it out for FREE tonight while enjoying drink specials, mermaid appearances, performances and raffles for prizes throughout the evening in support of the documentary and sending the filmmakers to the MerCon in Las Vegas.

Mermaids of New York Screening & Fundraiser
FREE. Thursday, July 7th. 6:30PM
@ R-Bar (218 Bowery at Rivington)
[Lower East Side]

She earns her beer money as a publicist and writer, and spends her spare time cooking, biking, and trying to decide if she's ready to get a cat.
