FREE S&M Book Reading at Good Vibrations!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

I know you need a compelling reason to go to Berkeley. Molly Weatherfield, author of the S/M classic Carrie’s Story, is doing a reading at Good Vibrations.

Carrie’s Story is an S/M classic from the 1990’s seeing a resurgence in popularity after the whip of interest in 50 Shades of Grey. It’s set right here in San Francisco and Napa Valley, so the setting will feel familiar. As may the “netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, and enticing “ponies” (people) preening for dressage competitions.”

Back in 2006, Playboy.com called it one of the 25 Sexiest Novels Ever Written.

The reading is this weekend on Sunday evening, the perfect time to make the journey to the East Bay. Where else can you go to a FREE book reading and then pick up lube and a new vibrator all at the same time?

Here’s an excerpt from the Amazon description of the book:

Imagine The Story of O starring a Berkeley Ph.D. in comparative literature, who moonlights as a bike messenger, with a penchant for irony, self-analysis and as well as anal pleasures. Set in both San Francisco and the more chateau-friendly, Napa Valley, Weatherfield’s deliciously decadent novel takes you on a sexually explicit journey into a netherworld of slave auctions, training regimes, enticing “ponies,” (people) preening for dressage competitions. Desire runs rampant in this story of uncompromising mastery and irrevocable submission.

You can read an excerpt here, or get the whole book early here at Amazon, but it’s probably best to hold off and get a fresh one in the Berkeley store where you can beg Molly to sign it for you.

Weatherfield has a great quote where she says:

What do you do if you’re a little confused by the turns your erotic fantasy life is taking?… I decided to write it all down and see if it came out as evil. It didn’t. It came out as funny. Carrie is ultimately funny, curious and intellectually brave. And that’s really what I wanted to write.

I love that. Read more from her about her process in The Muse Santa Cruz.

Happy reading!
