A Christmas perennial, Frank Capra’s classic stars Jimmy Stewart as a family man at the end of his rope who is shown by a friendly angel what life would be like without him. Sentimental in the best sense, with a deep strain of melancholy coursing through it, Stewart gives one of his finest performances.
