This Thanksgiving weekend, while the rest of America is stumbling around a Black Friday sale in a food coma, some of the West Coast’s most prolific post-punk and experimental bands will get together for the Orphans Music Festival, an unprecedented three days of music at the Night Light in Oakland. If you’re feeling like you want to distance yourself from the rest of America right now, then 1) we feel you and 2) this show is the place to be. Not only is it a gathering of mostly local Oakland bands who are keeping music alive in the Bay Area, it’s also a fundraiser for the Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council and Planned Parenthood. All door proceeds will to go to these two very important organizations.

Jason Kick, a musician, booking agent at the Night Light and organizer of Orphans Music Festival, explained the event, scheduled for Friday November 25 – Sunday November 27, has been in the works for a while. But given the results of the election (and the fast-approaching collapse of the free world – my words, not his), all the musicians involved decided to forego getting paid and play for a cause.

A full weekend pass is $20, and day passes can be purchased for $8-$10 on each of the three days. On Saturday and Sunday there will shows on both floors of the club.
