I’m happy to inform you that the Bay Area has finally gotten another place where you can consume Puerto Rican food. You’d think there’d be more than a handful of PR eateries in all of Northern California, but there isn’t. Christopher Caraballo, one of the owners of Borinquen Soul in Oakland, has left the Oakland spot to help open Calle 11/Del Encanto, a rooftop space in SOMA that housed the former Paradise Lounge. Christopher joins in on a partnership with Leticia Luna, former operator of Roccapulco and landlord of Del Encanto.

It appears the venture is located on the third floor of a three-story building, with Callè Oncè, the name of their weekend salsa nightclub, being two stories below the “roof top bistro.” Their Facebook lists that they serve dinner on Thursdays from 4PM – 10PM (sometimes midnight), Sundays are for brunch 10AM – 4PM and then dinner from 5PM – 10PM.

Del Encanto’s menu looks similar to other PR eateries with all of the greatest hits: arroz con gandules, mofongo, tostones, maduros, flan. It’s an impressive menu, while retaining its comforting homestyle cooking feel with one of the dishes listed as “baked” salmon, rather than roasted, and the prices aren’t too shabby for a restaurant with an open air rooftop space.  Keep an eye out for more information on Facebook and try to visit the new venture.
