There is an explosion of fun artsy events happening in San Francisco this time of year.  2 weekends of art fairs, street parties, and even an artist takeover of a hotel.   This is the time to get out there and mix it up with thousands of artists, makers, movers and shakers.  Here are the art centered events starting this weekend and running through Sunday May 7th 2017 in SF.  See you out there!

FRI – SUN 4/28-30 | @Hotel Del Sol SF

stARTup Art Fair is artists taking over a colorful hotel and reinventing each room with their painting, sculpture, or live performance.  This is a cool take on the art fair scene, the whole courtyard will be turned into a sculpture garden this year, the entrance of the building will be taken over by hand cut vinyl street art duo T.W. Five and geometric art favorites HYBYCOZO will be showing a piece.  It’s a pretty magical party.

Art Market SF hosts dozens and dozens of art galleries from the bay area and from all overt the world.  It’s literally a stroll through what’s happening in today’s art market.  It’s an afternoon of tasty food stands, fancy sponsorships, art talks, and cool art installations.

The Richmond District Neighborhood Center and the Clement Street Merchants Association are filling the streets with artisans selling their goods, resources by women & girl serving organizations, art activities, live performances by women musicians and dancers, as well as indoor gallery spaces where art will be showcased and sold.

DayBreakers is SF’s morning dance party, they typically throw super fun dance parties early in the morning and before work.  It’s like a sober rave before you start your day.   This Daybreakers at Lake Merritt dubbed ‘Sunday Funday’, is complete with dancing, food trucks, ‘uhmazing’ performers and all sorts of crazy surprises.  Awesome Oakland DJs & musicians (David Harness, LadyRyan, Dedan, J Boogie Dubtronic Science) will be on hand to keep the dance party going.

Twice a year Urban Air Market comes to Hayes Valley with over 130 vendors, live music, and interactive art.  This is maybe the best place in the bay to find a handmade mothers day gift, as well as check out what your local makers are up to.  This year there’s a DIY re-fashion workshop where you can take your old unwanted clothes and make them into something new.

His father was the pioneering Cuban composer/arranger and bandleader Chico O’Farrill and his son is the rising trumpet star Adam O’Farrill. As the driving force behind the Grammy Award-winning Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.

How Weird Street Festival

This is a funky, loud, costume filled, very San Franciscan street party.  The unofficial themes are always ‘peace’, ‘acceptance’, and ‘let your freak flag fly’, this year the official theme is “Summer of Weird”, paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love.  There will be  lots of burners, delightful weirdos, dancers, artists and electronic music.   There are some always wild after parties in the neighboring clubs afterwards.
