Warren & Sanders Discuss & Destroy Republican Health Care Bill

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Remember when there were leaders in this country who used facts and figures to talk about policy?  I don’t either really.  But it was a nice reminder this morning seeing that honest, ethical, politicians still exist in America.  Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, two very smart eggs who actually understand the importance of government and the effects of health care policy, got together to discuss what the Republicans in the Senate are doing behind closed doors.

The argument for socialized medicine in the USA begins with a very simple question.  We are the richest nation on earth, and we are pretending we can’t afford basic health care to each of our people?  Sanders talks about how the majority of Americans WANT socialized medicine, every poll indicates it, but the leadership in Republican party is way out of touch.  It’s clear that the Republican politicians are funded by the big insurance companies, and the Koch brothers.

Whenever I ask someone who works in health care (doctors, salesmen, technicians, nurses) about the cost, they tell me plainly that the insurance companies are glorified middlemen sucking up every extra dollar the system has.   The medical insurance industry is an $800 billion a year market, and business is booming.  For example Aetna, a large health insurance provider reported annual operating revenue of over $60.3 billion in 2016,  their CEO took $27.9 million home for himself. Do you actually think the insurance companies use most of that profit to improve their product or to make insurance more affordable?  Of course not, it’s a for-profit endeavor with companies that need to get bigger every year, the only thing this system really insures is that health care will get increasingly more expensive as time goes on.  Health care costs per patient in the US are already far more than any other country on earth, and by the way, one quarter of those costs are administrative.

Sanders: “Our Republican colleagues are so cowardly, are so frightful that the American people will learn what’s in their legislation they refuse to have one hearing, one discussion about it”

Warren: “I think its beyond cowardly, I think it’s actually very strategic on their part…they know what the koch brother want them to do”

We must do everything in our power to make sure the Republican Health Care Bill does not succeed.  If it do, literally thousands of Americans will die, because millions of Americans will lose their health insurance.  And why? So that insurance companies can continue to make record profits?
