FREE: Sex Toy Art Show at Toys in Babeland

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

There’s never a bad reason to pop into Toys in Babeland, New York City’s most beloved sex-positive, female friendly adult toy shop.  The place is bright and clean, with tons of wacky orgasm-machines, knowledgeable staff and once they even  gave a few free dildos to my friend Janine who was making an ironic-porno movie for a film class at Sarah Lawrence. Its also an interesting spot to check people out because someone who buys sex toys is obviously into sex and probably knows a thing or two about it, thus eliminating a critical challenge in the dating game!

Today things get even more graphic (HA!) in there, with the opening of photographer Sarah Sharp’s show “Sex Toys”.  The press release describes the work as a series of “meta-scenarios” of toys negotiating unusual landscapes strive to reveal the unseen worlds lurking beneath the surface of everyday objects.”

I’m  not 100% sure what all of that means but if the photo above is any indication, this artwork is going to make you look at fake penises like you never have before!  It’s a great day to enjoy the Lower East Side’s bounty: a delicious banh-mi at Banh Mi Saigon on Mott between Grand and Hester, wash it off with a to go margarita at El Sombrero, and head over to Babeland to check out the art.
