Broke-Ass Financial Coaching: Face it!

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

While being young, broke and beautiful is all well and good, some people’s finances are more jacked than others.  That’s why we’ve invited Betsy Crouch (aka Coach $izzle) to come onboard and dole out some much needed advice.  She is a professional financial advice giver after all.  If you’ve got a question you’d like answered please email her at betsyc@brokeassstuart.com.  Maybe your question will be the next one answered.

Most people dislike unsolicited advice, ya know things like, “you shouldn’t wear that,” “I wouldn’t eat that,” or “you should wax your upper lip.”  However, sometimes this advice can be like tough love and is helpful to hear.  Basically, I want you to feel a greater sense of empowerment financially so you can do what makes you sizzle. So here goes: face it!  That’s right.  Face that financial thing that is plaguing you.  Face that thing that you are wondering and worrying about.  It’s the first step to better handling your finances.

I have coached almost 200 twenty-something and thirty-something clients on financial topics such as: identifying priorities, tracking spending, paying down debt, and aligning spending and savings with priorities.  Through this experience I’ve seen that many of us have spent a lot of time thinking about a financial issue or challenge and doing nothing about it.  We instead choose to do other things to distract us from our problem.  You’re the only one who knows how much anxiety you have and how much time you are putting into worrying.  While actually looking at the financial challenge will sting,  you could experience a huge sense of relief by addressing it.

What you need to do is decide on one simple challenge to take on. Doing this will likely improve both your confidence and your attitude.  Why do we avoid these challenges?  There are so many reasons.  One main reason is that many people align their net worth to their self worth.  Do you do that?   I’m gonna let you in on a secret: everyone thinks everyone else has this money thing all figured out.  And you know what?  It isn’t true.  Your financial situation is not who you are.

Alright Broke Asses, take that unsolicited advice!  You are young and beautiful.  Face it.

Do you need help with ideas, solutions, or resources? You can reach out to respected friends, family, and colleagues for ideas or you can email your questions to betsyc@brokeassstuart.com, and I may answer your question in our upcoming Broke Ass Financial tips column.
