My Papa Was, Too!: Brooklyn Soul Festival

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

There aren’t that many things that are worth moving around for in the hot, fetid heat of August but dancing is definitely one of them.  Tonight at the Bell House, Eli “Paperboy” Reed and Dig Deeper present performances by Barbara Lynn, Roscoe Robinson and Hermon Hitson; big name soul stars who have never shared a billing but are guaranteed to make you jump, scream and shout as they play some of finest music from the most badass of musica genres. To follow up some mighty fine DJS will be playing sets on 45s to keep the party going.

The festival continues throughout the weekend with some more performances including Otis Clay the “Crown Prince of Chicago Soul” on Saturday night.

Five Spot Soul Food’s got the grub you need to soak up all that booze, so run home after work, shower and change into a sexy little shift dress and some heels, hit that eyeliner brush like there’s no tomorrow and work it out like my girls below.
