FREE Park Slope’s Annual 5th Ave Street and Music Fair

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Man this city is so spoiled. It seems like every weekend brings some new street fair or open air market and my money just finds new and inventive ways to wander off. My only previous experience with street fairs before moving to New York involved old veterans on canes and mystery pies so you can see why I get so excited about these things. This Sunday it’s time to brave the hordes of strollers and head down to 5th Avenue for the annual street and live music fair. Sure there will be all the usual fixtures like delicious food, cheap local beer and I’m sure plenty of things with bicycles screen-printed on them, but the best part is all the live music.

Resident music venue, Southpaw will be hosting a live stage outside all day from 12-6pm. Check out the full line-up here. After you’ve drunk all the Brooklyn Beer you can manage and suffered some bouts of sun stroke, stroll over to Union Hall just in time at 7 for the final installment of their regular Sunday comedy show, Tearing the Veil of Maya. Hosted by my personal favorite, Eugene Mirman, special guests include Wyatt Cenac from the Daily Show and up and coming comic star Kumail Nanjiani (of Michael and Michael Have Issues).

Come for the comedy and stay for the Fleetwood Mac when The Lindsay Buckingham Appreciation Society aka TLBAS cover Tusk downstairs at 9.  I’m still waiting for the “Night of a Thousand Lindsey Buckingham’s” to happen. A girl can dream.

Laura S - Spendthrift Scribe

Laura S, left the "sixth borough" three years ago to settle in Brooklyn. After working at some daily rags, she now does writing on the side but still eats more Ramen then necessary. When she's not moving residences every 6 months, eating her way through every neighborhood, and trying every microbrew known to man, she is unsuccessfully rediscovering home economics. With her binging days behind her, she's now exploring new projects and rediscovering the city that she loves (although is still prone to sliding on her knees during a Prince karaoke set).
