San Francisco Carnaval this Weekend in the Mission

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Are you ready to Samba? I hope so, because the two-day San Francisco Cultural Arts Traditions Carnaval celebration is happening all day today and tomorrow in La Mission and is sure to be a multicultural bucket of good times. The festival offers all the Salsa, Samba, Reggae, Tango, Hip- Hop, Merengue, Calypso, Cha Cha Cha, Cumbia, and Mambo dancing you could ever hope for as well as delicious food vendors and awesome entertainment. Did I mention there is a parade on Sunday too!? Fun for the whole family!

The San Francisco Carnaval started 32 years ago and has been going strong ever since. This year the Bratt Brothers (Benjamin and Peter) of the new film “La Mission” will be acting as Grand Marshalls of the parade, and you know what they say about any party with those wacky bros! Actually, I’m not really sure what they say, but I’m sure it’s about how much fun said party would be. Convinced yet?

If that’s not enough, here is an enticing list of Festive Festival Festivities and a video of a baby “Salsa” dancing to seal the deal:

* Dance Pavilion – musicians & dancers teach salsa, samba & much more
* Health Pavilion – providing extensive information, referrals & health screening
* Drum Grove '“ learn to play from professional drummers
* Ni̱olandia Рgames, break dancing, scholarships to face painting
* Food Pavilion
* Stages of Live Entertainment '“ non stop entertainment
* Soccer Pavilion
* Zona Verde (Green Zone) – eco friendly products and exhibits

Ali was born and raised in the Wholesome/Creepy capital of the world, Salt Lake City, UT. Once she was old enough to blow that pop stand she escaped to the place that was the anti-SLC: The Peoples Gay-public of Drugifornia aka San Francisco (holla 30 Rock!). You can now find her throughout this glorious city slurping Pho and scheming with her best friend Pinky doing what they do every night; try and take over the world.
