FREE Movies Under the Brooklyn Bridge

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Ah, summer in the city. Nearly-naked commutes. Hydrant fountains. Cooling centers. That unidentifiable stench! And the heat. Oh, the heat.

Even though I woke up sweating, I wouldn’t trade my NYC summers for anything. The man himself says we’re from where summertime’s unforgettable. And it’s true.

Among the great summer traditions: free movies outside. They show ’em all over Manhattan and Brooklyn and there are a few a week. Bryant Park and McCarren Park have popular screenings, but my favorite are the movies shown at the Brooklyn Bridge – the proximity to the water cools the air a bit, the view is beautiful and the screening site is within walking distance of Grimaldi’s, Jacques Torres and Almondine Bakery. Or I guess you could pack a picnic. Just don’t forget the booze.

This week’s movie under the bridge is Annie Hall (I know, right?), screening at sundown on Thursday.

Polina Yamshchikov - Flirt Poor

Polina is Siberian by way of Alabama, and therefore cannot pronounce "fire" or "iron" correctly but despite this can still woo men with her cooking skills and enormous Russian cheeks. She can usually be spotted on the streets of Brooklyn either yelling into a cell phone in one of five languages or swilling gin at an inappropriate hour of the morning.
