Cinnaholic: Gourmet Vegan Cinnamon Rolls in Berkeley

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

Now open for your cinnamony pleasure

Cinnaholic is a brand spanking new gourmet vegan cinnamon roll shop in Berkeley. I went to the press opening last weekend. I had just done a week-long juice fast and ended it by eating one million cinnamon rolls. I’m pretty sure that’s how you’re supposed to come out of those, right?

I’m about to blow your mind with alphabetical lists of their icing flavors and toppings. Are you ready?

Chocolate chips and rasberries!

Icings: almond, apple, banana, blackberry, blueberry, butter pecan, butterscotch, caramel, cherry, coffee, cream soda, hazelnut, Irish cream, key lime, lemon, macadamia nut, maple, mint, orange, peach, pina colada, pomegranate, pumpkin spice, raspberry, root beer, and strawberry.

Gourmet!

Toppings: almonds, apples, blackberries, blueberries, brownie chuncks, candy cane, cherries, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce, cookie dough chunks, gingerbread cookies, graham crackers, hazelnuts, holiday spices, jam, lemons, limes, marshmallows, oranges, oreo cookies, peaches, peanut butter, pomegranate seeds, raspberries, shredded coconut, strawberries, and walnuts. That is just plain ridiculous. Not to mention their specialty rolls, like Rocky Road and Mocha Almond.

Proud owners.

I am not even the sweet tooth type. But by the end of the tasting session I was pretty much ready to start introducing myself to strangers like this: “Hello, my name is Chloe and I’m a cinnaholic.” All of this thanks to Shannon Michelle Radke and Florian Radke, the good-looking, animal-loving, power-couple behind the new cinnamontastic shop. It’s a story as old as time. Vegan boy meets vegan girl with spectacular baking skills. Vegan girl meets vegan boy with foreign accent. Together they exclaim, “Move over tired cupcake fad, cinnamon rolls have arrived.”

a picture is worth a thousand bites

I dare any of you vegan pastry naysayers to tell me that these cinnamon rolls don’t taste like the real thing, or better! Also, if you’re a UC Berkeley student make sure to ask about their special discount.

Chloe - Pennywise Reporter

Chloe's youth was split between California and Kauai, frolicking on a macadamia nut farm in the tropics and landing finally in the Bay Area. Raised by super-Jew hippies, and the youngest of three sisters, Chloe learned early the virtues of thrift, economy, and green living. To the chagrin of her parents (who hoped, of course, for a Jewish doctor or lawyer), Chloe has put her degree from UC Berkeley to great use by becoming a folk singer. As "Chloe Makes Music" she plays shows throughout SF and beyond, donning vintage frocks, selling handmade merch, and pinching pennies as she sings for her supper. Calling Berkeley home for the last six years, you can think of Chloe as the website's East Bay Correspondent, opening your eyes to the hippie-filled, tree-hugging, organic-loving, vegan-eating, but way-overlooked and awesome assets of Berkeley, Oakland, and beyond.
