Pie in the Park this Sunday

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

What’s better than hanging out in Prospect Park on a beautiful summer day, playing some croquet and literally shoving pie in your pie hole? Unless you’re going to say to me “the construction people outside of your apartment starting at 9AM instead of 7AM,” then not much. And you can do that and more this Sunday at the fourth annual Pie in the Park event. Lucky You!

Every year, pie makers and lovers gather for this doughy contest which helps local baking organizations achieve their fund-raising goals. This year, proceeds (which are a modest $5 suggested donation for entering a pie to compete and $10 for aforementioned shoving of pies into pie hole) will go to SCRATCHbread‘s Kickstarter campaign to help furnish their new retail space. Considering I just spent an unhealthy amount of time looking at the food porn on their site (cocoa nibb & chai sticky ‘hand roll’, I think I love you), I agree that Brooklyn could use a steady spot for this kind of carby fix. Pies will be judged on Best Crust, Best Filling and Best Presentation with prizes from local food vendors.
