Capital “C” Cafe Experience at Roots Cafe

The Bay's best newsletter for underground events & news

You’ve seen a French movie, right? You know how the ludicrously attractive, ethereal girl will talk about stuff with the swarthy guy over coffee? They’ll be musing about love, life, or whatever with their pretty lips while even-tempo jazz and the clinks of coffee cups happen in the background? And how they always end up making out? Well, while making out with Jean Seberg is not guaranteed, you can definitely get a fix of very real-deal cafe culture at Roots Cafe.

Roots is the sort of place that strikes a balance between the laptop and the sketchbook, not being some modernist nightmare of sharp metal tables but also not some frilly, trying-too-hard cozy coffee house. There are delicious sandwiches and hearty cups of java as well as enough comfy couches to keep your ass glued to a nice book. More significantly, though, it is a happening spot for community get-togethers. Every first Thursday they open a new show of local art, while every Wednesday and Friday the spot opens up to allow for some FREE music of the acoustic guitar and mandolin vibe. Best part- FREE Pabst and BYOB during the shows. So really and truly, Roots is the spot for the most vibe for your buck in the area. Live the vie en rose, amis.
